I'm just back from lovely Cape Cod from kayaking, oysters and painting workshops after our terrific auction season. I loved learning encaustic painting. It's hot wax painting and involves using heated beeswax, colored pigments plus mixed media such as oil paint, india ink and pastels. I'm hooked! Just scroll down take a look at "Reveal."

I am deeply saddened to write to you about the death of Joan Parker, philanthropist, author and widow of Robert B. Parker, the mystery writer. A tireless fundraiser and champion of numerous charities including many of our benefit auction clients, Joan was a beloved mentor and friend. I'll never forget how much Joan taught me; she was the model for elevating fundraising to an art.

How much money do you lose? Don't allow long boring speeches that put your auction guests to sleep or cause them to talk over your speaker or walk out of your benefit auction.

Inspire your guests to bid higher and donate more to you.

For your auction event program - LESS IS MORE! That means that anyone who speaks should be coached to deliver no more than 2 minutes of "brief inspiring remarks."
